”Getting older is an adventure, not a problem.”
– Betty Friedman
18% of the UK’s population is over the age of 65. Getting older can come with a few physical and mobility issues that would prevent us from doing things that others may take for granted. Such as lifting and pouring a hot kettle for a cup of tea. We never think about it until we can’t or have difficulty with it.
As we age, we tend to slow down, our bodies aren’t as nimble as they once were or as quick as would like them to be. That’s ok, it doesn’t mean that we still can’t enjoy life to the fullest. Yes, it’s true, the early bird catches the worm but it is the second mouse who gets the cheese.
What do we mean by limited mobility?
Limited mobility refers to the inability of a person to use one or more of their extremities or a lack of strength to walk, grasp, grip, or lift objects. Limited mobility issues can come with age but we can also be born with them.
Just like you would use a wheelchair, crutches, or a walker, there are many tools and appliances available to help with mobility both in and outside the home. But today we want to talk about the ideal daily living aids for those with limited mobility and strength for the kitchen.
Uccello Kettle:
Our founder, Andy, suffered badly with his hands because of Psoriatic Arthritis. With that came pain and limited mobility. He found it near impossible to fill and lift a normal kettle for his coffee each morning.
There was nothing out there in the form of a mobility aid or daily living aid that could make his morning routine easier, so Andy took it upon himself to create one.
And he did, we now have the Uccello Kettle. Specially designed to restore independence for those like Andy who have limited or restricted strength, mobility, and dexterity.
With our kettle, you get a kettle and a tipper in one. It has a modern design, it’s easy to use and you won’t feel any pain with its tilt to pour action.
Uccello Grip Mat:
Our Uccello Grip Mat, launched recently pairs wonderfully with the Uccello Kettle. For those with low visibility or bad depth perception, the Uccello Grip Mat is ideal. For those who worry where to put their cup when pouring for the kettle, the Grip Mat is the ideal solution.
Simply place the mat in front of the 2 feet of the kettle, place your cup in the smooth centre ring of the mat and you will always have a safe and guided pour.
Don’t forget, the Grip Mat is made from non-slip material which means it will give you added grip. It’s amazing at opening stubborn jars and lids, keeps items from moving and for sale right here.
