Are your clients eligible for VAT Exemption?
Uccello Designs have been honoured to exhibit at a number of OTAC events throughout the country this year with many more to come. We have noticed that some of the amazing Occupational Therapists we spoke with were unaware of the fact that their clients can be declared as VAT exempt of medical products or devices.
We wanted to help by sharing more information with all Occupational Therapists to help make your life a little easier and ultimately, the life of your clients.
VAT Exemption: How Does It Work?
To be eligible for VAT exemption, the government states that you need to fit within any or all of the following requirements:
- You or the person you are purchasing the medical equipment/devices for must have a physical or mental impairment that has a long-term and substantial adverse effect on your/ability to carry out day-to-day activities. This is a condition that the medical profession treats as a chronic condition; for example – arthritis.
- Your or the person you are purchasing for has a terminal illness.
- You are purchasing for a charity.
How to Avail of VAT Exemption?
Direct from Uccello Designs:
On our website, we operate under the assumption that you or the person purchasing for someone else has a disability and/or impairment.
What this means is that you are automatically opted-in for VAT exemption until you reach the checkout. Before you reach the checkout to confirm whether you are VAT exempt of not – please note that all prices are excluding VAT.
Once you reach the checkout, you will be asked if you or the person you are purchasing for are VAT Exempt. Once you fit within any of the criteria above then you need to click the ”Disability VAT Exemption” option and fill in the mandatory form.
Our form will ask for the:
- Full address of the person who the item is being purchased for
- Reason for VAT exemption
- Name of the person purchasing on our website
- Date of purchase
All of this information is collected over our secure connection and we keep it safe and completely confidential.
If you do not meet any of the above criteria of course you need to click ”No” and you will need to pay with VAT. For example, our Uccello Kettle is £63 (including VAT) and £52.50 excluding VAT.
