Here at Uccello Designs, we are in the business of helping to make people’s lives easier with our products that can also be known as daily living aids. In this industry many refer to mobility aids, kitchen aids and of course daily living aids. But what is a daily living aid?
What is a Daily Living Aid?
They are products designed to improve the quality of life for individuals whose everyday routines are made more difficult by a physical impairment on one form or another. This can mean that if you live with arthritis, the everyday can become more cumbersome for you, so there are products out there to help make it easier.
A daily living aid can be classified into various categories. While we focus on daily living aids for the kitchen, there are many more out there. Have you ever visited a mobility store or shopped on their website? They have products broken down in to daily living categories such as:
- Kitchen Aids
- Bathroom Aids
- Walking Aids
- Living Room Aids
Daily Living Aids For Around the House:
Kitchen Aids:
Uccello Kettle
The Uccello Kettle is an amazing kitchen aid as so many kitchens either revolve around the cooker or the kettle. As we get older it can be harder to manage things around the home just like the kettle which can be heavy and uncomfortable to pour.
With the Uccello Kettle there is no lifting needed. Fill it in it’s base with a cup or a small plastic jug and enjoy the tilt-to-pour action of the kettle for a safe and eay pour every time. You can find the Uccello Kettle here on our website or in ant of our approved retailers right here.
Uccello Grip Mat
Whether you have limited strength, mobility and/or dexterity – the Uccello Grip Mat is the ideal kitchen aid to have at home. With its non-slip and extra grip material it is perfect for opening stubborn jars and lids. It can also keep items in place like a cup or a plate when carrying on a flat tray. Lastly, it is the ideal Uccello Kettle accessory for anyone with limited visibility or bad depth perception as we use it for the perfect cup guide.
One Touch Can Opener
At the best of times even I have difficulty opening cans with the manual opener but with the one touch – this pain is a thing of the past. It’s fast and can open all types and sizes of cans/tins. It is available online and in-store but did you know is also in one of our approved retailers too – why not have a look at Manage at Home.
Bathroom Aids:
Tap Turners:
Depending on the types or taps you have at home in your bathroom – turning them can be very difficult especially if you have limited hand and wrist strength. Tap Turners can be incredibly useful because they do all the hard work and you don’t have to worry about hurting or straining yourself.
If you want to learn more, you can purchase them directly via Mobility Smart here.
Raised Toilet Seats:
If you are finding it difficult to lower yourself onto the toilet, the raised toilet seat can ease the pain and discomfort as well as help you retain your independence. They fit nearly all toilet seats so there should be no worry. They come with adjustable brackets and the base is covered in rubber so there is the added security and safety
There are a number of great raised toilet seats in Bayliss Mobility here.
Extended Sponges and Loofah’s:
Whether its a twinge in the back, a sore knee due to arthritis or you simply find it uncomfortable to bend in the shower, there are amazing extended sponges and loofas on the market.
Their long handle eliminate the need to bend and the sponges have been shaped to get where others just can’t. They also have supportive grips so you can hold with ease.

Living Room Aids:
Reacher/Grabber:

Furniture Raisers:
Many people still think that raising furniture is for those who are recovering from a stroke so as not to put too much pressure on your heart. But they are beneficial for so many people. Anyone with back or knee pain could benefit completely and take the pressure on any sore or inflamed joints.

Couch Cane:
If furniture raisers are a little too rich for your blood right now, there is a great alternative on the market at Bayliss Mobility and it’s called a couch cane. It is a handled cane that fits with the vast majority of couches and chairs. It will make getting up for your next cuppa that much easier.

Walking Aids:
Canes/Walking Sticks:
While they have been around for centuries and used in fashion and when dancing, the humble cane or waling stick is a daily living aid. They are the simple solution for those with limited mobility and help you to achieve your daily tasks.
Felgains stock what they are calling the walking stick, re-imagined. Please feel free to check it out here.
Walkers:
Walkers are here to help give you more stability and can help those that need a helping hand and could use something a little more substantial that a cane or walking stick. There are a number of option on the market that nearly all mobility stores will have but Clark and Partners have a great range. You can see which best suits you here.
Elbow crutches:
Elbow crutches can be extremely beneficial to keep you upright and mobile. Where the elbow crutch trumps the walker and cane is that it can be more supportive in keeping your back straight while you walk and supports you as the same time. Because they are made with PVC, they are lighweight and easily adjustable for your height.
